Associate Professor, Psychology Dr. Woodhead's research and teaching interests are in lifespan development and mental health conditions among older adults. From SJSU's Project SHINE webpage:
"Project SHINE has served students very well, even as they have served SHINE. Students have been challenged to strive beyond their norms to reach out in communication and with specific purpose and goal to assist others in meaningful, sometimes critical life needs, i.e., ESL and citizenship. Students come to understand and value the life and culture of another. Hopefully, my students have uplifted their elder in his/her American journey as well." |

Fall 2021 Major: Public Health, minor in Business Email: [email protected] What I like about Project SHINE: Seniors and immigrants unfortunately seem to be at a disadvantage in our society. Not only do they have a difficult time navigating through our modern world, but they can also lack the resources and education they need to get by. SHINE is a great opportunity for us, as students, to do our part in the community, and for this community. We have a number of partnerships/centers that everyone can gain valuable experiences from and obtain necessary communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
What I hope to learn from Project SHINE: As a Program Site Coordinator Intern, I hope to obtain skills in both professionalism and leadership. I also hope to learn new ways in which I can further contribute and be involved in the health of our communities. Random Facts About Me:

Site Coordinator: John XXIII Multi-Service Center
Fall 2021 Major: Public Health, minor in Business Email: [email protected] What I like about Project SHINE: The best part about Project SHINE to me is that it acts as a bridge that helps connect altruistic people to organizations and communities in need. There are times when people want to help their community, but does not know how or where to do so. Project SHINE exist as a program to extend a helping hand and link these people to their volunteering organizations. Specifically, in Project SHINE, we help connect volunteers to organizations that assist with the naturalization of the older population.
What I hope to learn from Project SHINE: Through my time here at Project SHINE, I hope to further enhance my skills in leadership, networking, and communication. I feel that being a site coordinator in this program will help me explore these skills sets and strengthen them. Random Facts About Me:

What I like about Project SHINE: The biggest thing that stands out about Project SHINE is the diversity within the team and the collaboration with other students at SJSU and having the opportunity to work with a neighboring college - San Jose City College. Not only is this a student-run program, but they offer us, the younger generation, to teach our elderly community how to navigate the world.
What I hope to learn from Project SHINE: While working with Project SHINE, I hope to gain valuable skills that I can carry onto the workforce once I graduate. This internship is all about teamwork, communication, and applying yourself in areas you may not have been comfortable with in the past; I hope I will be able to build on these skills and become a better leader. What I like about Project SHINE: I like how Project SHINE is pretty small and intimate. It allows each of the members to get to know each other on a deeper level as opposed to really large organizations. I also like how we get to experience in various areas including social media, administrative, and site coordinating.
What I hope to learn from Project SHINE: I hope to make connections with my peers and also the community outreach programs that we are partnered with. I also hope to take the skills that I have learned while at this internship to the workforce. Random Facts About Me:
